GDPR – New laws on data protection came into force on the 25th May 2018

You may have already heard about GDPR and its implementation on 25th May 2018. The Scottish Cot Death Trust applies a strict code of conduct to all data it handles and the new law is just one further step for the charity.

The new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is set to be the most significant development in the field of data privacy in the past 20 years. GDPR affects everyone, and companies big and small. This includes charities, like the Scottish Cot Death Trust.

We only hold data about you if you have been in touch with us. The information we hold is kept on a secure database which allocates individuals an anonymised unique identifier (your personal ID number).

The data we hold also allows us to keep in touch with you to let you know what the charity is doing.

You may have contacted us seeking support after the sudden unexpected death of your child or relative, or because you are supporting a family who has experienced the death of a child. We will also record if you have enrolled on our Next Infant Support Service and been issued with an apnoea monitor.

The ID number allocated to you is used for internal communication between staff, support workers and counsellors working on behalf of the Scottish Cot Death Trust.

You may have been in touch with us previously requesting safe sleep training. We keep client details on file to enable us to offer update training sessions.

If you have taken part in any fundraising activities we will record what events you have participated with and details of funds raised.

Should you wish to opt out of hearing from us or wish to have any details removed from our system please make contact before the 25th May to have these details removed from our database, by any of the following methods:
