Keeping your baby safe during pregnancy

Providing your baby with the best possible chance to survive and thrive begins the moment you discover you may be pregnant. There is increasing evidence to show that some babies are more vulnerable to cot death than others and that their vulnerability could be caused in the early stages of development during pregnancy. You can’t start early enough to think about your baby’s health and well-being. Maintain good ante-natal care for you and your unborn baby throughout your pregnancy. This means:

  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet
  • Take the recommended vitamins (such as Folic Acid, Vitamin D)
  • Do not smoke
  • Do not use drugs or alcohol
  • Get frequent medical checkups with your doctor or nurse

Maintaining good ante-natal care for you and your unborn baby is the first step to protecting your baby from cot death.
