‘When a Baby or Child Dies – Supporting Families’

Monday 26^th March, Perth Royal Infirmary

The Child Bereavement Charity is running an interactive day aiming to provide an opportunity for participants to explore the impact of the death of a baby or child on the family and on the professional. Sessions will include breaking bad news, using the SUDI toolkit when a child dies suddenly, communicating with grieving parents over paediatric post mortem and sibling grief.

Cost: £65 per delegate, including light lunch. Bookings before 14^th February 10% discount.

Vitamin D and Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy

There has been much discussion in the media today about whether or not there is a link between Vitamin D deficiency and SUDI (Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy). However, the reports within the media appear to be causing some confusion as they have tended to focus the issue of potential miscarriages of justice relating to parents being wrongly accused of causing harm to their child. Linking these issues together may cause confusion.

It should be noted that Vitamin D deficiency is very common in Scotland – due to the lack of sunshine in our climate. Parents concerned about Vitamin D deficiency in their children are advised to speak to their Health Visitor or GP.

Lights of Love service – 9th December 2011

On Friday 9^th December 2011, Forth Valley Sands will again be hosting their Lights of Love Christmas memorial Service in St Mary’s RC Church, 15 Upper Bridge Street, Stirling, FK8 1ES.

Lights of Love is an evening of traditional carols, inspiring readings and beautiful music. The Service in Stirling will coincide with other services being held around the UK. The Scottish Cot Death Trust has been invited to attend and take part in this memorial service. Anyone wishing to attend would be more than welcome. The service starts at 7.30pm. Tea and time to meet with others will be available after the service.

Trust launches new DVD

The Scottish Cot Death Trust launched its first ever educational DVD. The purpose of the DVD is to provide practical guidance for parents and carers of young babies on how to reduce the risks of cot death.

The DVD also features parents sharing their personal experiences of cot death and the role of the Scottish Cot Death Trust.

Sainburys Kinross launch event raises a staggering £1753 for the Trust!

Staff, volunteers and customers have all helped the Sainburys Kinross charity partnership to get off to a fabulous start. The partnership was formally launched on 6th August in-store. There were lots of activities going on which included an information stall and bag-packing event. The bag packing raised a phenomenal £1783 and gets the partnership off to a great start.

Congratulations and a huge “Thank you” to everyone involved.
